A simple screening tool for occupational burnout among dentists

BackgroundNearly 40% of US physicians experience occupational burnout. The actual prevalence rate burnout among dentists remains unknown. authors examined a simplified 2-item screening tool based on the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) to identify possible dentists.MethodsData were obtained from survey pediatric (n = 540) in United States. full MBI items data set used determine and categorize emotional exhaustion depersonalization. Responses 2 items, 1 for depersonalization, analyzed separately risk experiencing high depersonalization was calculated using all subscale these dimensions. Spearman correlations compare responses depersonalization.ResultsBased frequency at least once per week, 18% respondents had positive response item “I feel burned out my work” exhaustion, 9% have become more callous toward people since I took this job” along with dimensions increased score respective items. There strong between scores, respectively.ConclusionsA simple can be potential dentists.Practical ImplicationsImproving awareness about help mitigate its detrimental consequences.
